Major share in the delivery of bio kerosene
North Sea Group had a major share in the delivery of the bio kerosene which was used 16 June for the world’s first demonstration flight with a military helicopter. The demonstration flight took place by the Dutch air force at their base in Gilze-Rijen for which an Apache AH-64D helicopter was deployed. North Sea Group was involved in the demonstration flight through their joint venture SkyEnergy, of which also KLM and Spring Associates are part. In November 2009 North Sea Group was also involved with the first demonstration flight with bio kerosene in a Boeing 747 for KLM. During the demonstration flight one of two engines of the Apache was running on a mixture of fossil fuel and bio kerosene. Ninety percent of this bio kerosene is derived from used cooking oil and ten percent is derived from algae oil, both of which are highly sustainable feedstock’s. Apache helicopters are at the moment deployed during the ISAF mission in Afghanistan. Minister of Defense Van Middelkoop was attending the demonstration flight.
